PA‘U UNIT

PURPOSE:
The King Kamehameha Day Community Parade Committee, Hale Mua, Inc. and all other coordinating associations and/or organizations (KKDCP) honors our great Ali‘i, Kamehameha, with a celebration throughout the state. This annual event is held in Kailua Kona every year in the month of June.


A Pa‘u Queen from Hawaii Island is chosen. Eight Pa‘u princesses will also be chosen to represent the (8) eight Hawaiian Islands. The Pa‘u Queen’s unit consist of riders to include : 1- Banner page, 1- Pa‘u Queen, male and female attendants as deemed appropriate ( 6 to 20 total ) . Each Pa‘u island unit consists of (6) six riders (total) : 1- Banner page, 1- Pa‘u princess, 2- Female attendants, 2, Male outriders .
The criteria of this manual are to enforce and practice all aspects of safety for participants and all parties involved to comply with all rules, regulations, liability waivers and instructions as set forth by KKDCP.

WHO MAY APPLY:

All riders must be experienced equestrians.

Princess: Must be part Hawaiian and be age 18 or older
Attendants & Outriders: Must be age 18 or older.
Banner page: age 12 or older based on riding experience

PROOF OF AGE: LEGAL PHOTO ID i.e., DRIVERS LICENSE, PASSPORT OR BIRTH CERTIFICATE,, MUST ACCOMPANY EACH COMPLETED PA‘U APPLICATION

APPLICATION:

A narration, type written or clearly printed must, be provided with the application. This should consist of a brief narrative of 100 words or less describing your entry and its purpose in the community. Committee reserves the right to edit narration(s).

All applications, waivers and narrations must be submitted to the Pa‘u committee no later than March 30, 2008 or as soon as possible, for the confirmation and assignment of island.

 

RIDING QUALIFICATION:

Riders must be experienced and qualified. Safety is of the most importance and a priority. There will be riding qualifications held by appointment. Riders may also be informed by the committee of date, time and location set for horse trials.

NOTE: Riders already trial qualified, and riding consecutive years with KKDCP, need not to repeat required trial qualifications. Any rider inactive for two or more years must be re-qualified.

WAIVER:

KKDCP waiver forms must be submitted with each application;
a, Horse owner liability waiver
b, Pa‘u participant liability waiver.
